Dubai International (DXB) has achieved a remarkable milestone, registering its busiest quarter to date, with 23 million passengers passing through its terminals in Q1 2024, reflecting an 8.4% surge compared to the corresponding period last year.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Dubai Airports announced that the total passenger traffic for the quarter reached 23,052,060 guests, with January witnessing the highest traffic at 7.9 million.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of DXB, expressed his contentment with the robust growth witnessed in the initial quarter, crediting it to the expanded network connectivity provided by local carriers Emirates and flydubai. With Dubai's escalating prominence as a global hub, DXB aims to sustain this growth trajectory while enhancing the airport experience. Foreseeing a surpassing of the 2018 traffic record, DXB anticipates accommodating 91 million passengers by the end of the year, further solidifying Dubai's position as a premier global business and logistics center, with key destinations including India, Saudi Arabia, the UK, and Pakistan.
Leading the chart of top cities by passenger numbers are London with 961,000 guests, Riyadh with 795,000, and Jeddah with 669,000, closely followed by Mumbai with 637,000 passengers.
The first quarter witnessed a total of 109,238 flight movements, marking an 8.3% year-on-year increase, with load factors reaching 79.1% in Q1. DXB efficiently managed 26.8 million bags during this period.
