It was the morning of Sunday, May 5, when 2.4 million students across the country thronged examination halls to sit for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate), or NEET-UG, the national exam for admission to medical programs. The Patna division of the Bihar Police received a tip-off from their colleagues in Jharkhand. They were informed about a suspicious car moving around the city, whose occupants were possibly attempting to circumvent the examination process. Although they had no description of the car, they did have four crucial digits of its registration number: 0019.
